McLaren comfortably won the Manufacturers' Championship, their first since 1974. 　　This season featured the last driver of the 20th century to compete in both the F1 championship and the Indianapolis 500 in the same season, Italy's Teo Fabi. No driver would repeat this feat until 2017, when Fernando Alonso also participated at the Indy 500.
