Clad in polished, white limestone, the surface is said to have acted like a mirror, reflecting the sunlight. The pyramid could be seen from afar, shining like a jewel, and was therefore named Ikhet, meaning Glorious Light.
Multimedia artist Ali Santana refers to this awe-inspiring light in his installation. In a dark space, he creates an intense physical experience using light, sound and vibration: audio-responsive LED lights and a complex sound collage are controlled by the presence and movements of the audience.
The colors and patterns of light constantly change, while the audio design comprises a synthesis of noise, rhythms and sounds that reflect the artist’s personal feelings of resilience, fear, sadness and frustration. The audience is thus immersed in and part of a microcosm in which all the senses are stimulated.
